| Article 1 - Name |
|
The name of this organization is the Information Studies Graduate Organization, hereafter referred to as ISTGO. ISTGO is the graduate student organization of the School of Information Studies, Syracuse University, Syracuse, New York, henceforth referred to as IST.

| Article 2 - Statement of Purpose |
|
The purpose of ISTGO is to provide an organized forum through which graduate students of the School of Information Studies (IST) at Syracuse University might promote functions and address issues of concern outside the classroom. Specifically, ISTGO strives to foster active participation of its members in official IST functions, including faculty meetings, social events, discussion groups, workshops, and the sponsorship of guest lecturers. Further, ISTGO serves as the official representative of its members and their interests before the administration of IST and the administration of Syracuse University.

| Article 3 - Membership |
|
Membership in ISTGO is open to full-time and part-time graduate students. Membership is signified by attendance at ISTGO meetings and subscription to the ISTGO electronic listserv.

| Article 4 - Organizational Affiliation |
|
ISTGO is independent of all other organizations and has no affiliations external to Syracuse University.

| Article 5 - Officers |
|
The general body of ISTGO is governed by an Executive Contact Team. This team is composed of a representative from each of the following graduate programs at IST:

Master of Science in Library and Information Science (MSLIS) |

Master of Telecommunications and Network Management (TNM) |

In addition, there will be up to two representatives from ISTGO to the Graduate Student Organization Assembly (GSO).

All ISTGO officers must be matriculated IST graduate students.
|
 |
|
The Executive Contact Team will conduct the business of ISTGO between General Meetings and will implement all official decisions on behalf of ISTGO. In the event of the resignation of an officer, the Executive Contact Team is empowered to appoint a replacement until such time that an election can be held.

All expenditures must be approved by both a representative to the GSO and a member of the Executive Contact Team, who will follow the designated ISTGO framework to allocate funds. The Executive Contact Team will prepare a budget for the academic year to be presented at the first General Meeting of the fall semester. At this meeting, the budget will be voted on. Subsequent changes to the budget must be voted on and approved at a General Meeting.

A call for nomination for the positions of the Executive Contact Team will occur at the beginning of each semester (Fall, Spring, and Summer). Procedures for nominations and elections will be announced at this meeting. Public notice will also be given. Elections for the aforementioned positions will be conducted by secret ballot. All Executive Contact Team members will be elected by a simple majority of those ISTGO members present and voting at the General Meeting.

Provision for the removal of an officer from office are for neglecting his or her responsibilities, by stealing, abuse of designated power, or not actively participating in General or Executive Team meetings. An Executive Contact Team member must motion for the removal of an officer from office. The motion can only be seconded by ISTGO members. After a motion has been seconded, then the removal proceedings are open for discussion. After equal consideration is given for and against removal of said officer, the removal proceedings are then put to a vote. Removal procedures require a vote of three-fourths majority. Once the vote has been tallied, the decision for or against the removal of said officer is effective immediately upon announcement.

| Article 6 - Meetings |
|
General Meetings will be held at least once a month to conduct the business of ISTGO. The meetings and their agendas will be publicized no later than one week prior to each meeting.

Executive Team meetings will be held between General Meetings to conduct the business of ISTGO. Attendance and voting at Executive Team meetings is restricted to Executive Contact Team members. Any Executive Contact Team member may call Executive Team meetings given adequate notice to Executive Team members. At least one Executive Team meeting will be scheduled between General Meetings.

All Executive Team members must be kept informed of any developments affecting ISTGO between General and Executive Team meetings, via email, telephone, or other agreed upon method of communication.

| Article 7 - Revisions |
|
Any or all parts of this document may be revised by a 2/3 vote of ISTGO members present at a General Meeting. Any revisions are in effect immediately upon approval. Notice of proposed changes must be given one month of said General Meeting.
